On break till Fall.

I haven't been producing enough scraps to sustain my bin and now poured the soil to support my tree in our front yard. I'll have to start fresh this time. It's not discouraging me in fact it's a lesson to start eating more organically and be more aware of our eating habits.  And consuming less processed and junk foods and eat more fruits and veges like we used to.. To grow something well one must also grow well. In the meantime I'm waiting for my lemon balm and oat seeds to arrive from amazon. And I'll be ordering some compost too just in time to start on those tomatoes.

The compost shall recover!

The compost was a little dry and apparently this week compared to last week.

And I think it stems from two thing(s): thinking that the soil has enough compost this week and going on my merry way studying, plus mixing in soil from the dirt road in my backyard which everyone drives over. Instead of the soil I got from my tree which is actually growing. Note to Self: the soil is barren for a reason! However, I thought mixing it with some water will do the trick. Boy I was wrong. The soil was undernourished so now it kind of absorbed everything and now its a medium brown from the rick dark brown I once had. So this week I'll put in a little more compost and even some bone leftovers an idea I got from this post. Hopefully the soil will like it and by the time my lemon balm and catgrass (for my cats) seeds get here the compost will be fertile and healthy.

Composting on a Low Budget

Getting started ....

1. Composting.
One of my favorite parts of gardening. Simple things like egg shells will do or fruit peels. Let the bin sit outside in a box in a cool place to let it ferment for about a week.
